PsiQuantum's Vision For Large Scale Quantum Computing
Category Technology Wednesday - December 13 2023, 08:29 UTC - 11 months ago PsiQuantum is a quantum computing development startup with a vision to create large scale quantum computing systems. PsiQuantum has raised about $665M and has a valuation of over $3B. They have automated much their workflow to estimate the resources to develop algorithms as well as partnered with the US Department of Energy and GlobalFoundries to deliver the first system in six years.
PsiQuantum has raised about $665 million and has a valuation of over $3 billion. PsiQuantum is developing a photonic quantum computer that will have millions of physical qubits and eventually millions of error corrected qubits.
Their belief is that small scale quantum systems will not be useful and only large scale systems will be able to solve valuable problems. They are developing and improving the algorithms that will run on the large scale quantum systems.
The workflow to estimate the resources needed to determine the potential cost benefit viability an algorithm could take months. They have automated much of the workflow so that estimation and modifying algorithms is an order of magnitude faster for the entire process.
Everything about their systems has to be at the appropriate scale. The cooling is going to mass produced. This will require connecting to a large existing facility with a lot of piping for helium. They are increasing cooling power couple of orders of magnitude by integrating with the cooling for the Stanford’s linear accelerator.
PsiQuantum is aiming to deliver its first commercial quantum computing system in under six years, its CEO said as the startup announced a partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy to develop advanced fridges for its machines.
Chief Executive Jeremy O’Brien said the timeline is working with chip manufacturing partner GlobalFoundries.
