Kairos Power's ETU Marks Milestone in Commercializing KP-FHR Technology
Category Technology Tuesday - March 19 2024, 06:04 UTC - 8 months ago Kairos Power's ETU is a non-nuclear prototype used to demonstrate their KP-FHR technology, with plans for a second iteration and eventual commercial reactor. DOE has provided funding and Kairos Power has achieved significant milestones, making them a leader in the race to commercialize advanced nuclear technology.
Kairos Power is on the fast track to commercializing their 140 megawatt-electric high-temperature molten salt reactor, KP-FHR, with the successful operation of their Experimental Test Unit (ETU). The ETU, a non-nuclear prototype at the same scale as their forthcoming commercial reactor, is being used to demonstrate key systems, structures, and components, test the supply chain, and gain operational experience .
Recently, the ETU made a major milestone with the loading of FLiBe (a mixture of lithium and beryllium fluoride salts) to begin operation.
