A new study has found that consuming a diet high in ultra-processed foods, such as soft drinks, chips, and cookies, may increase the risk of cognitive issues and stroke. The study, published in the medical journal Neurology, followed over 30,000 individuals aged 45 or older for 11 years and looked at their dietary habits and any subsequent cognitive decline or stroke. The study found that those who ate more ultra-processed foods had a higher risk of cognitive decline and stroke compared to those who ate fewer processed foods .
The impact was particularly significant among black individuals.
